Golf Swing Tips

To improve your golf game, it’s vital that you take golf lessons. Golf is a sport that is almost impossible to learn without some sort of guidance. Luckily, there are golf experts around the country whose job it is to teach golf. By taking golf lessons, you can drastically improve your game in a relatively short amount of time. Taking golf lessons can be an expensive, time-consuming effort. And like any good or service that will cost money and require time, you should be careful before you buy.  Golf can be a really costly game to play and it is reasonable to assume that you have invested a fair amount of money in your equipment – golf clubs, golf bag, golf balls, golf clothing, golf cart etc; – therefore doesn’t it make common sense for you to learn how to use them to their advantage and improve your skills and capabilities?

Dave Pelz’s Putting Bible – golf’s least understood skill.

Extract from the book:

Picking up a new putter every day every week even every month will do you more harm than good. If you think the problem is in the putter have a competent golf professional properly fit the club to you your body and your stroke. Then – and this is key – commit to that club and commit to learning a better stroke with it than you ever had before. Once you learn a better stroke keep your commitment to groove it. And finally once you own it remember that you are only human so you’ll never be perfect which means you’ll have some bad putting days. But the good days will be much better than they used to be and the bad ones won’t be quite so bad. That’s improvement!

11.7 Learn to Aim

If you are unhappy with your ability to align your putter or you are just trying to choose between putters check your alignment with every putter you consider. If by chance you find one that you can aim better than the rest I recommend you use it. Alignment is the first fundamental of putting stroke mechanics; if you can’t

Establish Your Practice Framework 263 aim your putter and stand to your Aimline properly you have little or no chance of making a repeatably pure stroke.

But remember as discussed in section 4.4 aim is not just a function of eyesight. Rather it is primarily a learned response to the way you miss. If you usually miss to the left your subconscious will get you to aim farther to the right. If you usually miss to the right your subconscious will aim you to the left to compensate.

I learned early in my teaching career that I could never successfully change a golfer’s stroke compensation to pull putts to the left if I allowed him to keep aiming to the right. Of course the opposite is also true.

THE FIFTEEN BUILDING BLOCKS OF PUTTING

The Seven Building Blocks of Stroke Mechanics

4.1 First Some Definitions In this and the next three chapters I will discuss the 15 building blocks of putting what they are how they work and what they mean to your ability to roll your puns into the hole. First I’ll list them all here (Figure 4.1.1) then define a few terms to enable us to keep our communications straight. Then I ‘ll jump in by detailing the seven blocks that deal with putting stroke mechanics.

Defining How the Ball Rolls

Before getting into the mechanics of the putting stroke I’ll define some vocabulary which will help keep things simple and easy to understand throughout the book. In our Scoring Game Schools we routinely use words or phrases that you may not be familiar with. We do this because we’ve found that many golfers refer to the same things using different terms and sometimes use the same terms to describe different things.

Position the golf ball in the manner previously described, then stand straight up. Your knees are not locked, but they are close to locked. Your back is perfectly straight. Your chest should be out. It won’t feel right to have your back straight and chest protruding. It will look and feel “exaggeratedâ€
